A few people have mentioned to me lately that I have really
slowed down on my blogging. The irony here is that I have basically picked up
on my junk food eating, so let’s take the opportunity to right only one of
these two wrongs. To be sure, I am not a big pretzel girl. They are always too
dry for me and remind me of being a kid trapped like a prisoner in a Daycare
center force-fed budget snacks. Quite obviously, pretzels need cheese, mustard or maybe even a stein
filled with beer to entice me like a good snack would.
Let’s go ahead and cue the exception: Combos. I have always
loved them. Their cheese so zesty; the cylindrical outside in perfect
proportion with the amount of filling to be discovered on the inside, there is
a lot to like. Subsequently, I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when I
heard that they were coming out with their pretzels filled with vanilla
frosting. Forget any type of cake, I could eat an entire tub of frosting on a
spoon and be a happy girl. The idea of this snack food sounded like good + good
= fabulous.
This edition of Combos is called Sweet & Salty Vanilla
Frosting “Pretzel”. That last sentence has a few grammatical issues, but is it
delicious? The short answer is hell yes. It’s been over a month since I first
read about these pretzels and I have searched many retail stores and asked a
handful of people to keep their eyes peeled. The back of the bag boasts that
there are six servings and yea right. I split the bag with an accomplice and
even half of the bag wasn’t enough for me. I’m already thinking about buying
another bag, I kid you not.
The outside of the pretzel is your standard. The pretzel is
dry, but thin enough that it breaks easily and is quickly moistened and
flavored by the filling. The real star here? The vanilla frosting mixes with
the salt like Romeo kissing Juliet and it’s everything that I hoped it
would be and more. It’s flavor harmony in your mouth. This versatile snack
would be good any time of day and the only thing missing for me was a larger
portion and a cup of coffee to balance this out. The vanilla flavor is sweet,
but not overpowering. Rating it, I gave this snack a 9 out of 10. It should be
mentioned that there is also a new caramel flavor out there, but personally I
can’t imagine how it would top the vanilla frosting variety.
If you have had a pleasure of trying these, let me know what
you think!
